Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday raised a serious concern in the Goa Legislative Assembly, highlighting the plight of around 200 ex-students of Don Bosco College of Agriculture, Sulcorna, who are unable to apply for government jobs despite completing their agricultural studies.
Speaking during Zero Hour, Alemao informed the House that these graduates are being denied eligibility for vacancies advertised by the State Department of Agriculture because the institution is not recognised as an accredited college.
“The Government of Goa took over the College of Agriculture while the accreditation process was still ongoing. While steps were taken to protect the interests of the teaching and non-teaching staff during the takeover, no action was taken to safeguard the academic future of the students who completed their course,” Alemao said.
He urged the State government to intervene and provide immediate relief by allowing the affected graduates to apply for current and future job vacancies in the department through appropriate relaxations.
“These students cannot be left stranded through no fault of theirs. The government must take responsibility and ensure they are not denied employment opportunities due to a technical lapse,” Alemao added.
In response, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant acknowledged the issue and said the matter was under active consideration.
“Earlier, the college was not accredited, and that is why the problem has arisen. We are looking into it,” Sawant assured.
The issue has brought to light concerns over the transition and regulatory compliance during institutional takeovers, with calls growing for urgent corrective measures to protect the career prospects of affected students.
