The team of Model Margao, under the visionary leadership of Yogiraj Digambar Kamat, is gearing up to conduct a series of eco-conscious and culturally vibrant activities that will be conducted across Margao during the sacred month of Shravan and the forthcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Addressing the media in the presence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Model Margao Convenor Yogiraj Kamat said Model Margao will commence a regular drive to collect nirmalya initially from

seven prominent temples in Margao throughout the year, in collaboration with the Zonal Agriculture Department. He said a dedicated composting space has been secured where, with the assistance of the AlterEnergyZ team, the nirmalya will be transformed into compost using sustainable techniques.

“Model Margao also welcome more temples in and around Margao to be part of this meaningful initiative as we move forward uniting faith with care for the environment. Temples in need will be provided with bins to store nirmalya until collection”, he said, adding “additionally, for Ganesh Chaturthi 2025, the initiative will include collection of nirmalya from all Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals in Margao”.

On awareness on the ban on plaster of Paris, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat stressed on the need for

environmental protection, as he emphasised the importance of curbing the use of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in idol-making. “To spread awareness, Model Margao will distribute informative flyers at various Chitrashalas (idol-making workshops) across Margao, encouraging devotees to opt for eco-friendly idols”, he added.

As far as Ganesh immersion spots and public facilities, Yogiraj said as part of the community-focused initiative, Model Margao will identify and prepare 8 visarjan spots in and around Margao, similar to last year. Each spot will be designed to create a safe and festive atmosphere, equipped with drinking water facilities, first aid support, arrangements for safe idol immersion, spaces to perform final aarti, besides designated Nirmal nirmalya bins for floral and organic waste.
