At a recent meeting of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC), it was informed that the government has allocated Rs 5,300 per household to repair the toilets.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan consultant Gaurav Pokhle explained the various schemes to the councillors under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
“There should not be open defecation in the municipal area. The government is giving grant-in-aid to construct public toilets, household toilets and community toilets, which should be put to appropriate use,” he added.
Pokhle said the target was to repair the existing household toilets and added that Sulabh International is also building public toilets through the PWD.
Speaking to The Goan, CCMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said the councillors have been instructed to identify household toilets which need repairs.
“No documents are needed for existing household toilets, but the toilet should be within 3 metres from the house.”
He said 200 household toilets have been selected for repairs. “Public toilets will be repaired under government schemes and each selected household will be given Rs 5,300 to repair the toilet,” he informed.
