The Congress national leadership has asked its Goa unit to begin preparations for the 2027 assembly elections by strengthening the organisation and exposing what it termed the mismanagement and corruption of the BJP governments at the Centre and in the State.
An important meeting was held in New Delhi on Tuesday under the guidance of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, party leader Rahul Gandhi, and General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal. Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare, State Congress president Amit Patkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, and CWC member Girish Chodankar attended.
The meeting reviewed the political situation in Goa and discussed the party’s organisational structure. Central leaders stressed the need to create widespread awareness among the people about corruption and governance failures.
They advised that responsibilities within the organisation should be clearly assigned to office bearers to build trust and strengthen grassroots connections.
State Congress president Amit Patkar said the discussions focused on both political and organisational matters. He added that the leadership emphasised exposing corruption before the public and preparing systematically for the upcoming polls.
The assembly elections are now a year away. Against this backdrop, the national leadership took stock of the party’s readiness in Goa. Leaders urged the State unit to intensify outreach and mobilisation efforts.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of unity within the party ranks. Leaders agreed that the Congress must present itself as a credible alternative to the BJP by focusing on issues that directly affect people’s lives.
With the roadmap for 2027 laid out, the Goa Congress has been tasked with translating the advice into action on the ground and the coming months could possibly see a sharpened campaign in the State by the opposition party.
