Mickky puts Cong on notice over 2027 polls

MARGAO
Former Minister Mickky Pacheco on Tuesday set one month deadline to the Congress leadership to unveil its plan for the 2027 Assembly election, threatening to float his own political outfit in the coming polls.

The former Minister said the Congress party should not blame him or accuse him for floating the new political outfit to divide the vote and help the BJP.

Asked to explain on his expectations from the Congress, Mickky said the Congress should tell how the party would go about in the 2027 Assembly election and whether the party would assign him any role in the party in the run up to the polls.

Addressing the media, Mickky claimed the Congress leaders had approached him in the 2024 Lok Sabha election and the recently held Zilla Panchayat polls. He, however, said nothing has been heard from the Congress after the elections.

He said he has every right to speak about the Congress party because, the party repeatedly sought his support during elections and after elections, there is complete silence and disengagement.

He urged the Congress party to decide its future course now, not later. “If this attitude continues, I will be compelled to take my own political course, including building an independent political platform. The Congress should not later accuse me of dividing votes or helping the BJP. At the pace at which Congress is currently moving, I firmly believe an independent platform can perform better than the Congress itself,” he added.

Saying he is not issuing a threat but a reality check, Mickky said this statement is not meant to divide but to correct. “The Congress party must introspect, restructure, and re-engage sincerely with committed leaders and workers otherwise, the responsibility for future outcomes will lie solely with the party leadership”, he added.

Saying that it is an open secret that the Congress party becomes active only when elections are announced, Mickky said, “Once elections are over, the leadership and organisation disappear from the ground. This pattern has repeated itself after every election, including the recent Lok Sabha and Zilla Parishad elections”.
