3 families evacuated in Bicholim taluka

BICHOLIM

Three families were evacuated after water levels in rivers crossed the danger mark and water had to be pumped out from the Sakhali market as heavy rains disrupted normal life in Bicholim taluka.

Heavy rainfall for several hours led to flooding of houses in several parts of Bicholim taluka after the Bicholim river in Bicholim, Par river in Asnora and Valvanti river in Sakhali crossed the danger mark and began overflowing into residential areas.

Water flooded many houses and three families at Bhatwadi-Nanora, Wadaval and Ladfe were evacuated to safer areas by the Bicholim Disaster Management team. Around 15 houses suffered considerable losses due to flooding in Bicholim taluka.

The Assonora-Dodamarg road at Nanoda and the road at Bhatvadi and Kasarpal were submerged for about two hours. In Sakhali, water entered the market and was pumped out by the WRD team of workers. Speaker and Sakhali MLA Dr Pramod Sawant along with Mamlatdar Pravin Pandit, WRD officials and some councillors inspected various affected areas in the constituency to take stock of the situation. Dr Sawant also directed officials to closely monitor the water levels.

Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar and former MLA Naresh Sawal visited the flood-affected people in Bicholim constituency and assured them assistance, while Sakhali Municipal Council Chairperson Dharmesh Saglani also visited the flooded places. The Bicholim fire services attended to several calls to clear the roads and uprooted trees in different parts of Bicholim.

Mamlatdar Pravin Pandit said the disaster management cell in Bicholim Taluka had been kept on high alert following a forecast of heavy rainfall by the Met department for the next 24 hours.

He also directed the talathis concerned to assess the losses and submit a report to him for necessary action.

Deputy Collector Pradeep Naik also directed the disaster management cell to keep close watch on the situation.
