55 given cabs under ‘Taxi Patrao’ scheme

Transport minister says Goa Miles business crossed Rs 100 cr mark

PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant handed over 55 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) taxis to individuals from Pernem under the Transport Department’s entrepreneur scheme ‘Goencho Taxi Patrao’ on Saturday.

Launching the scheme, Sawant said at least a dozen of the beneficiaries did not have even a cycle in their household and now they are not just drivers but also ‘patrao’ of their taxi.

Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said, by the end of April there will be a counter for blue cabs at the airport even as he praised the ‘Goa Miles’ taxi service which he said, has crossed the Rs 100 crore business mark.

The Transport Department’s entrepreneur scheme is being operated in collaboration with the company managing the Goa Miles taxi-aggregator service with the latter bearing the cost of the vehicles initially.

Godinho also said that the beneficiaries were deliberately picked from Pernem as many from the taluka had given up their land for the Mopa airport.
