5-day Ganesh idols immersed with fervour

PANAJI

The people bid adieu to Lord Ganesh as the five-day idols were immersed with great fervour on Tuesday.

The majority of Ganesh idols are usually immersed after five days, though some will bid adieu to the Lord after seven, eleven or even 21 days, the number of such families will be less.

The five-day idol immersion started on Tuesday afternoon. Some people came in a procession for the Visarjan ceremony. Some avoided crowds for safety reasons amid Covid.

In Panaji, ferry boats were used for immersion with the special provisions from River Navigation Department. At some places, traditional canoes were utilised to carry idols at deep water points.

As there was no continuous rain the use of firecrackers was high. The people, especially the youth, were seen purchasing firecrackers in bulk at selling points.

In some villages, the people of different wards have a mutual understanding to share the common immersion site.

"People of our ward immerse idols till 8 pm. While other ward people immerse after 8," said Bhalchandra Kambli, a resident of Parsem.

Some even immerse the idols in their private wells.
