The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, has sent to the North Goa Sessions Court the case of six employees of a Calangute beach shack accused of attempting to murder and assaulting a group of tourists from Thane, Maharashtra.

JMFC Jude Torex Sequeira, while giving the order on Wednesday, noted that the offences under Section 109 (attempt to murder) read with Section 190 (common intention) of BNS 2023 can only be tried by the Sessions Court. The case papers and charge sheet were therefore transferred to the Principal Sessions Court, North Goa, at Merces. The accused were directed to appear before the Sessions Court on September 24 at 2.30 pm.

The incident took place on January 3 when complainant Nitin Agarwal and five friends were playing on the sand in front of a shack, which was closed at the time. They allegedly knocked down a lifeguard’s chair, which drew the attention of a security guard. An argument broke out, and the guard called five co-workers. The six staffers then allegedly assaulted the tourists.

One of the tourists, Rohit Daroliya (40) from Mumbai, was injured and admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. He was discharged later the same day, and the group returned to Mumbai.

The arrested shack employees were identified as Naufal Abubekar P T (28) of Kerala; Mayuresh Saudagar (34) of Kotkarwada-Pernem; Rohit Kumar (27); Abhishek Ranoram Kumar (24); Vinod Tarduram Kumar (31); and Surinder Karnail Singh Kumar (28), all from Himachal Pradesh.
