781 take Covid jab in mega Margao drive

Around 781 persons, mostly senior citizens above 60 years of age took the Covid vaccine jab in Salcete taluka during the mega drive at the TB hospital, Margao Urban Health Centre and the Primary health centres at Curtorim and Loutolim.

The TB hospital topped the list with as many as 300 citizens taking the jab throughout Monday. Nodal vaccination officer, Dr Ira Almeida informed that majority of the beneficiaries of the vaccine were senior citizens, above 60 years of age.

She pointed out that the centre expects a large turnout of citizens for the vaccination on the second day of the mega exercise.

The Margao Urban Health Centre reported a turnout of 221 persons on Monday for the vaccine. Urban Health Officer, Dr Anju Kharangate, said the Centre had made announcements in the churches on Sunday for crating awareness amongst the people on the need for citizens to take the vaccine. 

The Curtorim PHC also reported a turn out of 191 persons to take the vaccine, with around 165 beneficiaries turning out to be elders, above 60 years of age.

Curtorim PHC  Health Officer Dr Vallabh Nadkarni said the Curtorim panchayat had spread awareness amongst the villagers on the two-day mega vaccination drive on Monday-Tuesday. Given that the Curtorim Panchayat comprises 11 wards, elders and persons with co-morbidities have been called at the PHC separately on the two days,” Dr Vallabh informed.

Loutolim PHC Health Officer Dr Vinesh Gaonkar said around 69 persons, mostly persons above 60 years of age turned up to take the Covid jab.
