AAP steps up drive against E20 petrol rollout in Mapusa

Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa on Saturday intensified their campaign against the rollout of ethanol‑blended E20 petrol, visiting petrol pumps in Mapusa and interacting with vehicle owners.

AAP Goa Vice President Manuel Cardoso, along with Shyam Kolamkar, Umesh Kolvalkar and Vishwajeet Shirodkar, spoke to motorists about the impact of the fuel where many said they were unaware that E20 had already replaced pure petrol at pumps.

Several vehicle owners complained of poor pickup on steep slopes, reduced mileage and engine‑related issues, Cardoso said, adding that one motorist said he spent nearly Rs 3,000 on vehicle repairs and his mechanic linked the problem as possibly due to E20 fuel.

“Nearly 80 percent of the people we met don’t even know they are filling E20 petrol,” Cardoso said, adding that it was found that many were forced to spend on their vehicle repairs and service.

In a statement issued by the party, it said motorists disclosed in their conversations with their leaders that their bikes and cars struggle to climb slopes and performance has dropped.

"AAP reiterates its demand that consumers be given a choice between pure petrol and E20 at every pump," AAP said in the release and called for a reduction in the price of E20 to reflect its lower calorific value and reduced mileage.

Cardoso said the complaints gathered during the visits underline why the government must stop the forced rollout because consumers should not be compelled to use a single fuel option.

The party also has urged Goans to support its campaign by signing a letter to the Prime Minister through StopE20Petrol.com.
