A group of social activists and members of the Civil Society have come together under the banner of Forum against Corruption, Illegalities and Destruction (CID) to fight corruption, illegalities and destruction of the State.
Addressing the media, Forum president Jayesh Shetgaonkar said that Goa today stands at the crossroads of a dark, dismal and bleak future. “Under the present dispensation, Goa’s downward descent has been alarmingly rapid. There appears to be a systematic blueprint being executed by the government to surrender our rights, our resources and our choices into the controlling hands of a vested few. For the people of Goa, the stakes are high. It is no exaggeration to say that our very survival is threatened,” he said.
Jayesh alleged that under the present BJP dispensation, corruption, illegalities and destructive so called ‘development’ have reached a new level. “This is reflected in every facet of people’s lives from the total absence of rule of law, to issues like decimation of the ecology and serious health problems linked to environmental pollution, all of which are contributing to making the life of the common citizen unbearable,” he said.
Activist Xencor Polgi said policies of the government distressingly rooted in corruption are aimed at legalising illegalities. “The result of this is evident in the extremely destructive development amidst innumerable scams that are making the lives of common citizens unbearable and creating growing insecurity amongst the people of Goa. These policies are being created without the slightest consideration for their impact on the livelihoods of people, the flora and fauna of the State, the environment and ecosystem, existing laws and the very survival of Goa and its people,” he added.
Members of the Forum against Corruption, Illegalities and Destruction” include prominent activists like Jayesh Shetgaonkar, Xencor Polgi, Rama Kankonkar and some others.
The group alleged that corruption has reached unassailable heights due to the patronage of ministers, MLAs and elected representatives with a facilitating role being played by government officials and the administration including those responsible for ensuring law and order.
