Soil erosion along coastline: Cavelossim VP knocks doors of minister to take stock of situation

MARGAO
After huge waves battered the coastline on Sunday, leaving the coast devastated, the Cavelossim village Panchayat have knocked the doors of Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral to take stock of the soil erosion in the village.

Sarpanch Dixon Vaz has dashed of a letter to the Environment Minister, drawing his attention to the soil erosion that took place at Mobor-Cavelossim on Sunday. “It is a very serious matter and I have written to the environment minister with photographs of the erosion that took place on 15 January,” he told the media, saying he has personally requested the environment minister to visit and inspect the coastline along with other experts to know the ground reality.

Dixon said the locals too are very concerned about the erosion that had been taking place along the Cavelosism coast in recent times. Local fisherman and Cavelossim panch member Jesus D’Costa said that the situation is getting worse year after year, fearing that sea water may eventually enter the village one day if the government does not take any steps to stop the erosion.

The Cavelossim coast, more so along the Mobor side, had been facing erosion year after year in the last few years, during the monsoons.
