Virabhat locals seek MLA’s help to stop mobile tower installation

MARGAO
Agitating residents of Virabhat in Curtorim constituency on Thursday called on local MLA Reginaldo Lourenco with a plea to stop the mobile company from installing the mobile tower at the government primary school complex.

The MLA explained the people that he too shares the concern of the residents that the tower should not come inside the school compound. The MLA, however, said he cannot give a guarantee that the tower will be shifted to another site with the South Goa district Collector giving the go-ahead signal to set up the tower, further saying the High Court is monitoring the issue of mobile towers.

Reginaldo has now told the residents that they should all call on the authorities early next week and submit a memorandum why they are opposed to the mobile tower coming up inside the school ground.

Saying that the authorities have put the onus on the residents to give them alternate site to erect the mobile tower, the residents wondered how they can propose alternate sites, saying those who have proposed the Virabhat site should find out an alternate location. “Let those who had come up with the proposal to set up the tower inside the school compound at Virabhat find out the alternate location,” demanded Antonette Rodrigues.

Reginaldo later told the media that he has conveyed to the district Collector to listen to the voice of the people. “I am not in favour of the tower coming up inside the school compound. I did not propose the tower, but there are two persons who have been indulging in politics over the issue,” he said.
