After the drama that surrounded the late declaration of re-evaluation results of law students last month, it’s the turn of engineering students who had answered their fifth semester exam in the month of November, and applied for re-evaluation in March, as soon as their results were out, to worry about their fate.
Their re-exam commences on May 13, and students are in a dilemma over whether they should study for this exam or not, as they do not know if they have cleared or failed in semester five.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has taken up the matter on behalf of these students and on Wednesday wrote to the Education Minister Pramod Sawant, as well as the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar about the same, holding the Goa University accountable for the delay once again.
“The engineering students had answered their fifth semester exam in the month of November 2018. The students had to wait for a long period of four months to see their results and it was finally announced on March 8, 2019,” explained Prasenjeet Dhage, NSUI secretary and legal in-charge in the letter. Dhage further explained that the delay in declaring results was in violation of rules.
“The Goa University is required to declare results within 60 days (of answering). However this rule is being violated by the late declaration of results. The same engineering students of various streams that is Mechanical, Electrical, Telecommunication, Computer engineering and Civil engineering continue to suffer as their re-evaluation results of the same fifth semester exam which was held in November 2018 is yet to be declared,” stated Dhage. “The students furthermore cannot give their papers for “challenge evaluation” as their re-evaluation results itself are not out,” he claimed.
Dhage has asked Sawant and Javdekar to take cognisance of the matter as “the late declaration of results has become common in the Goa University. It is seen that the results are announced only when the students approach the university officials.”
