Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has urged the Tuem Hospital Action Committee to allow the new Tuem hospital complex to begin on February 2 and operate in phases, since any delay in starting the hospital could damage medical equipment due to non-use over prolonged time.

He was interacting with members of the Tuem Hospital Action Committee who called on him to discuss the opening of the Tuem hospital, which has been officially linked to the GMC hospital.

Arolkar said the hospital building was completed six months ago and needed to start as soon as possible.

“If this hospital is not started soon, then equipment and materials in this hospital are likely to be damaged due to non-use and this could lead to another delay,” remarked Arolkar.

“To avoid this from happening, this hospital should be started immediately with the existing facilities and more facilities can be provided in stages at the hospital.”

“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will inaugurate the Tuem hospital and will provide all necessary information regarding the hospital and its facilities.”

Arolkar sought to reassure the committee members that the Tuem hospital will be under the complete control of GMC hospital, adding that doctors and medical staff will also be recruited for the Tuem hospital.

The committee convenor Jose Lobo and members, Tulshidas Raut and Pundalik Dhargalkar, have been demanding that the Tuem hospital should be inaugurated only when all facilities are made available in the hospital, instead of providing facilities in phases.

The committee has also petitioned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, demanding that this hospital should be inaugurated only fully linking it to GMC Hospital and there should be no attempt to shift the Community Health Centre to the Tuem hospital complex.
