The villagers of Anjuna gave a green signal to act against scrapyards, illegal mobile carts, signboards and encroachments on footpaths in the village. The gram sabha on Sunday also resolved to take action against the sale of tobacco products in the beach village.
Raising the issue of illegal signboards on the roadside, electricity poles and even trees, a gram sabha member urged the panchayat to conduct a drive and remove all the signboards and even impose fines on the offenders. He also called for similar action against illegal mobile carts that have sprouted all over the place in the village.
The panchayat decided to take action against the illegalities and to write to the power department to remove the illegal boards on the poles. The issue of open sale of tobacco products also came up for discussion urging the panchayat to act against the menace.
Anjuna sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar said action will be initiated against all the illegalities. When a gram sabha member inquired why action was not taken against the scrapyard, the sarpanch informed that the panchayat had already taken action and also issued a demolition order.
