The taluka administration has stepped up measures in Bicholim in a bid to tackle the spread of a second wave of Covid in the taluka.
Addressing a news conference, Bicholim Deputy Collector Deepak Vaingankar directed vendors to wear face masks and also spread awareness among customers about the need to wear masks and to maintain social distancing to avoid the spread of Covid.
“As compared to other places, the spread of Covid has been under control in Bicholim taluka. But if shops and business establishments do not adhere to SOPs and health guidelines, their licences may be suspended or cancelled,” warned Vaingankar.
Calling upon officials concerned to take strict action against those ignoring the SOPs and health guidelines of the State government, the deputy collector also warned that a fine of Rs 200 would be imposed on those found violating the norms.
He also instructed the police to intensify patrolling in the market and other places.
He appealed to people to get themselves tested if they develop Covid-like symptoms and to opt home isolation to prevent the spread of Covid to others.
Advising people not to send children below 10 years and senior citizens above 65 years in crowded places, the deputy collector also appealed to temple committees to avoid mass gatherings during festivals.
“Traditional festivities of people cannot be stopped, but temple committees organising these festivities must take the responsibility to avoid large crowds and people too must avoid crowded places,” he said.
Mayem Primary Health Centre (PHC) Health Officer Dr Siddhi Kansar informed the deputy collector that several migrants were not following the SOP's, while many youth were seen in groups after dusk.
Bicholim PSI Kishore Ramanan was also present at the press conference.
