According to reports, there had been initial doubts over drowning as the cause of death, specially since Shetye was a proficient swimmer and moreover, the incident had taken place while there were others in the swimming pool and attendants in the vicinity. This had led to doubts that Shetye may have died of other causes, but the autopsy report on Monday established that he had died due to drowning as there were no injury marks on the body and he had not suffered from any health condition at the time of the incident. It may be recalled that Ishant Shetye had drowned in the swimming pool at Government Sports Complex at Peddem in Mapusa on Sunday at 5.30 pm.
