Be model citizens, Tawadker urges citizens
MARGAO: The Minister for Tribal Welfare, Ramesh Tawadker urged students to be model citizens and take a pledge to utilise their knowledge in the service of society.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the all Goa quiz on the life and times of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar organised by the Goa Commission for SCs and STs, Tawadker said the country can never forget Dr Ambedkar's contribution to the country. He said the State government has taken all measures so that no student belonging to the tribal community will remain uneducated due to financial difficulties.
He urged the students to mull over how they can contribute to the country's welfare even as he sought to underline the importance of a change in the mindset of students in this regard. “On this day, let us take a pledge to be useful to the society,” he told the students.
Later, the organisers declared the winners of the quiz contest.

Meera Kosambi lecture series held
MARGAO: Venting his feelings at the Meera Kosambi lecture series organised by the Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM), Marathi balladeer Sambhaji Bhagat expressed concern over purported intolerance in the country. He claimed that the intolerance was prevalent during the erstwhile Congress regime as well but has only increased in the present times.
Bhagat, who was addressing the audience on the topic 'Loksanskruti ani Kalavant' (Folk culture and artists) in Marathi, claimed it is the bounden duty of any artist to unearth truth and be a medium to convey it to the masses.
Through his ballad, the balladeer covered issues such as Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji's respect for women and their safety, satirical verses on the aesthetic beauty and lives of the rich.'
