An integrated pest management programme was held for the benefit of farmers in Betalbatim, the village which plays host to around 83 hectares of paddy area for Kharif and around 20 hectares in the Rabi season.
Central government officers, Nilesh Saste, Asst Plant Protection Officer (Weed Science), Kavita Beeragani, Assistant Plant Protection Officer (Entomology) both gave power point presentation on important insect pests and diseases of paddy crop and explained techniques for identification and control of them.
Zonal Agricultural Officer Sheriff Furtado stressed on importance of Rice Gundhi Bug which attacks the milky stage of the grain which results in empty chaff without any rice.
He stressed that farmers have to visit the fields at least once a week to observe the attack at the right time to adopt control measures.
