Noted Benaulim-based environmentalist, animal and nature lover, Hema Nadkarni (74), passed away in a Margao hospital following a heart attack on Wednesday morning.
Nadkarni was the president of the South Goa Welfare Trust For Animals (SGWTA) and life member of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) and the Goa Birds Conservation Network (GBCN).
An ardent animal lover, she provided shelter to several stray dogs in their Benaulim home and as a nature lover, she contributed enormously to the greening of the Benaulim Monte hill.
She is survived by her husband, Kishor Nadkarni.
The funeral rites were performed at the Margao crematorium on Wednesday evening.
