PANAJI: In a major fallout over the 'bhang’ party in the Colvale Central Jail, five jail staff were suspended on Friday.
After a preliminary inquiry, government suspended Assistant Jailer Shivprasad Lotlikar, Head Guard, Rajendra Wadkar and Jail Guards, Caitano Godhino, Kiran Naik and Vijay Dessai.
Sources informed that a prison inmate involved in drug racket had arranged 35 kilos of mutton for the bhang party.
Although jail authorities will conduct a detailed inquiry in the incident, sources said consumption of drugs during the party cannot be ruled out.
It may be recalled the jail inmates had organized a bhang party on February 13 in the Colvale jail after which two under trials and a jail guard complained of uneasiness somewhere at midnight and later admitted in the hospital.
While the two under trials “ Survesh (Babu) Arolkar and Vinay Gadekar “ were first admitted to North Goa District Hospital and later shifted to GMC, the jail guard, Kiran Naik was admitted in the Mapusa district hospital and later shifted Hospicio Margao. All three have since been discharged.
Based on complaint of jail superintendent, Mapusa Police had registered an offence under Section 328 (causing hurt by poisoning) of the IPC against the accused jail inmate, Anil Bhui.
In the meanwhile, Mapusa Police on Friday said that it will file a request plea with JMFC Mapusa to take the accused, Anil Bhui into their custody for interrogation.
Police are likely to get a report of the bhang mixed milk sent to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) office, on Wednesday.
Police are also expected to record statements of the suspended jail guards.
