In Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC), wards 2, 5 and 10 have been reserved for women, while ward 4 has been reserved for women in the OBC category. Wards 8 and 9 have been also reserved for OBC in the general category, while wards 1, 3, 6, 7, 11 and 12 have been kept open in the general category.
With the reservation of wards, it seems that there would be no impact on other wards, barring wards 2 and 5 which have been now reserved for women. The wards are represented by councillors Kamlakar Teli and Kamlesh Teli respectively.
Both the candidates have decided to field their respective wives after discussing the matter with their voters.
“I may consider fielding my wife, but I will take a final decision only after consulting my voters” stated Teli.
Even though ward 4 has been reserved as OBC for women, it will not have any impact as this new ward has been created by carving out parts of wards 2 and 3.
As far as reservation of wards 8 and 9 as OBC in the general category is concerned, it would not affect the existing scenario as ward 8 has been carved out of wards 6 and 7, and as such it would be this new ward will give an opportunity to a new candidate. Sitting ward 9 councillor Shashikant Naik will also face no threat as he may contest from ward 11 as a portion of ward 9 now been shifted to ward 11.
