There is a growing demand for Opposition Leader and Poriem MLA Pratapsing Rane to contest the 2017 assembly polls for a special reason.
His supporters are keen that Rane continues to represent Poriem constituency for the 11th time and in doing so, would complete 50 years as legislator in active politics.
At a news conference in Valpoi, Congress workers claimed that Rane's performance in the constituency would ensure his success in the 2017 assembly polls.
“During the last ZP elections, all four ZP members in Sattari taluka were elected from the Congress party and this only displays the popularity of the Pratapsing Rane and his son, Vishwajeet, in Sattari,” said ZP member Premnath Hazare.
“Pratapsing Rane, who has been elected for the 9th time since the 1972 elections, is sure to win the next assembly elections because of his developmental work in Sattari taluka and his performance as chief minister for 17 long years. No body can defeat him. Congress workers will persuade Pratapsing Rane to contest the 2017 assembly elections because the people of Sattari would want Rane to complete a half century in politics,” Hazare added.
Others Congress workers present at the news conference claimed that Rane had carried out many major projects in Sattari in the past four decades, including the Chorla-Belgaum road, the management college, ACGL and GAAL company and the Anjunem Dam at Keri.
Others present at the news conference included Poriem Block Congress President Prakash Gawas, Valpoi Block Congress President Laxmi Harvalkar, GPCC member Sagun Wadkar, VMC Chairperson Sharafat Khan, Vice-Chairperson Dharmendra Salunke, VMC councillors, sarpanchas and panchas of various panchayats in Sattari.
