BJP workers involved in Ponda drug trade: GFP

The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has accused the State BJP government of remaining silent on the drug activities in Ponda taluka.
Addressing a news conference in the city on Monday, GFP spokesperson Durgadas Kamat and convener of OBC Cell GFP Sandeep Naik said drugs are easily available in Ponda, but no action has been taken by the government to find out the source.
“Earlier, drugs cases were reported only in coastal belt, but now the illicit trade has entered our temple town. Despite knowing the facts, the government is doing nothing to arrest the menace,” Sandeep Naik said.
“I feel that there is involvement of BJP workers in this trade. Hence, no action is taken,” he said.
“There may be many undetected cases. Charas and ganja trade is flourishing in villages. BJP used to complain against drugs during the Congress regime, but now they have failed even to keep check on it. It is evident that BJP is involved in it,” Naik said.
Kamat said he has spoken to senior police regarding the issue and has requested them to take action.
“Truckers from north India bring in drugs to Goa. Drug peddlers are targeting students. Police should frisk the bags of students by making surprise visits,” Kamat said.
