Builder starts cleaning roadside mud near Vasco flyover bridge

VASCO
Gammon India, which is constructing the flyover bridge near Baina Ravindra Bhavan to connect the four-lane highway with the wagon loading point, has begun cleaning mud deposited on the roads due to construction work.
Sources in Gammon India also assured to barricade the construction site soon.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted the issue of dust pollution faced by residents of Baina due to the construction work going on in the open.
The Goan had also brought the issue to the
notice of Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar, who immediately conducted an inspection and directed Gammon India to barricade the construction site.
After reports appeared in The Goan, many residents complained to authorities concerned claiming that Gammon India had failed to initate action while residents still suffered dust pollution.
A resident of Baina, Krishnakant Kamat, who owns Kamat Garage, wrote to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to intervene in the matter, as the matter had gone out of control. Kamat also sent pictures to the chief minister to show the dust caused due to open construction.
"The chief minister assured me to take the matter up with higher ups in Gammon India and also assured immediate action," Kamat told the Goan.
With mounting pressure from residents, The Goan report and with Parrikar's intervention, a JCB was engaged to clean the area near the construction site. Gammon India also cemented most of the areas that were dug near Kamat garage junction at Baina and the area near Ravindra Bhavan at night so that roads would be ready for public use the next day.
"We are cleaning the entire area and we will also get the barricading of green cloth around the construction site so that people do not get affected by dust pollution," an officer of Gammon India told The Goan on condition of anonymity.
Several residents of Baina had complained of severe dust pollution at the site and demanded barricading of the construction site. While work was being carried out in the open, a lot of dust accumulated on the borders of the roads and had caused dust to fly in the air every time a vehicle passed along the road.
