Two get bail in the Calangute assault case
Calangute Dy Sarpanch writes to senior cops to speed up probe on his son’s attack
MAPUSA
A Mapusa court granted anticipatory bail to two persons involved in the alleged assault of Joel Sequeira, son of former sarpanch of Calangute and present Deputy Sarpanch, Joseph Sequeira.
Soon after the alleged assault on Joel, Calangute Police had arrested Prajesh Naik in the incident.
Joel Sequeira had lodged a complaint at the Calangute police station that five persons had assaulted him at Tito's Lane close to midnight on June 24.
While one was arrested by police and later released on bail, a JMFC court in Mapusa granted anticipatory bail to Rohan Nagvenkar and Ritesh Nagvekar on Saturday. Two others are still absconding.
Meanwhile, Deputy Sarpanch, Joseph Sequeira has expressed his dissatisfaction in the progress of the case. He said he has sent letters to senior police officers including DGP, IG, SP (North) and the Calangute PI to speed up the probe and bring all the accused to book
It may be recalled that the alleged assault took place late in the night of June 24. Joel Sequeira along with his sister while proceeding to the Tito's overtook some cars on the way. The occupants of one of the cars, apparently upset for having been overtaken started abusing him.
As he (Joel Sequeira) was parking his two-wheeler in the Tito's lane, the occupants of the car arrived and started raining blows and kicks on him. His sister, who arrived at the spot a little later, was also abused by the five men.
On hearing of the assault, Joseph Sequeira rushed to the spot but the accused made good their escape.
