With a handful of people attending the Tivim gram sabha on Sunday, the panchayat did not disappoint those present either, by wrapping up the meeting within minutes.
Seven gram sabha members were present when the gram sabha proceedings began, which swelled to 12 by the time the meeting ended. Apart from the 12, seven panch members were present for the gram sabha.
The gram sabha meeting began at 10.45 am and ended at 11.05 am within 20 minutes flat, half of the time taken to read past gram sabha minutes.
The gram sabha took almost 10 minutes to read the minutes of the previous gram sabha and another 10 minutes to discuss issues raised by two gram sabha members.
A gram sabha member, Ramesh Volvoikar raised objection to some people who were creating nuisance by dumping garbage near his house in St Annes Colony at Dhanva.
“Some people are so shameless that they dump even sanitary napkins in the open and right besides my house,” Volvoikar said.
Sarpanch, Vithal Vaigankar promised to fix CCTV camera near Volvoikar’s house to keep a track on persons, who have been creating nuisance in the area.
Another gram sabha member, Jacinto Sequeira requested the panchayat to repair the roads that were dug up during the laying of Gail gas pipeline in Tivim.
“Most of the roads dug up to lay the pipeline have not been patched up yet causing much inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians,” Sequeira said.
The sarpanch said bad roads could be patched up by filling it with rubble during the monsoons. He said proper tarring of the road will be taken up only after the rains.
According to Sarpanch Vithal Vaigankar, few people attended the gram sabha because there were no much issues to be discussed.
“People may have not turned up because there was no important matter scheduled for the gram sabha and secondly panchayat has completed most of the people’s work,” Vaigankar told The Goan.
Suryakant Karapurkar was the observer at the gram sabha.
