Among the gangs caught stealing expensive mobile phones from the holidaymakers in Goa, Calangute police arrested a gang of 'Bombay Tulla' thieves.
The modus operandi of the thieves from Mumbai, Maharashtra were to distract their target and go away with the phones, most of which were high-end latest models of iPhone, One+, etc.
"These thieves would mix with the party crowd to execute their crime. Their modus operandi was to engage their target in talks or distract them otherwise, and steal their phone and other valuables. The Bombay Tulla gang is believed to be involved in similar offenses at other places," Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan said. Goa police's counterparts in neighbouring states have been informed about the thieves for further investigation.
As mentioned, Calangute police led by Police Inspector Dattaguru Sawant seized a maximum of 116 high-end mobile phones from them.
"Likewise taking advantage of Christmas and New Year celebrations in Calangute Police Station jurisdiction and Sunburn EDM event in the jurisdiction of Anjuna Police Station, some of these accused flew down to Goa while others travelled via road. They had checked in different hotels in North Goa," Sawant added.
To avoid suspicion around them, the thieves would be dressed in the best outfits at the party venues "to easily mix up with people."
As per the information received through sources, over half a dozen inter-state gangs arrived in Goa ahead of Christmas and New Year of which three are busted by Calangute Police.
