In an accident reported on the Siolim-Chopdem bridge involving tourists late Tuesday evening, a two-wheeler rider has suffered serious injuries, Anjuna Police informed.
The mishap took place at around 9.40 pm at the Siolim side of the bridge.
An eyewitness informed that the four-wheeler with MP registration number plate slammed into the oncoming two-wheeler on the bridge. The impact was so severe that the rider was flung out from the two-wheeler and toppled from top of the bridge onto the ground below the bridge and suffered grievous injuries.
The injured person has been rushed to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa for treatment, police said.
People who gathered on the bridge informed that two male persons including the driver who were in the car were drunk. Their family members including children were also travelling in the car.
The two-wheeler, which was a rent-a-bike, was also ridden by a domestic tourist.
Police were yet to identify the rider.
“Police should keep a tab of people who drink and drive especially on the Siolim-Chopdem bridge,” said William Fernandes, Deputy Sarpanch of Siolim-Marna panchayat, who was present at the accident site.
Anjuna Police informed that the driver of the car has been sent for medical examination.
