Goa police were in a tizzy upping surveillance at the borders with Maharashtra after they got a wire suggesting an anonymous caller had tipped off Mumbai police that a tanker carrying explosive material RDX, often used for terror activities, was headed to Goa from Gujarat.
Check posts at the border with Maharashtra were virtually sealed since the wee hours of Sunday after the the Mumbai police relayed the anonymous caller's info to their Goa counterparts. The message was received from the Mumbai police over the wireless systems, Goa police said.
Meanwhile, on their part, the Maharashtra police too swung into action and intercepted a tanker at Ratnagiri. It did not contain any RDX, but the vehicle and the driver have been detained. The anonymous caller's additional tit-bit that there is possibility of two Pakistanis being on board the tanker, also proved false.
The call was made by the anonymous caller from a cell phone and it had the entire Mumbai Police's top hierarchy in alert mode, activating the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
The caller, one report said gave a description of the tanker as white-coloured based on which, the police intercepted it in Ratnagiri but contrary to the info, it was only carrying chemicals meant for polythene production, police said.
Maharashtra police are also on the hunt for the anonymous caller and the driver has been detained even as the chemicals the tanker is carrying are being analysed and no any suspicious material has been detected so far.
The threat call came nearly a week after another threat, the second in two days, was received by the Mumbai police about a bomb planted in the city, officials reported.
