PANAJI: Cansaulim Panchayat, led by Sarpanch Savio Pereira, along with Velsao social worker Roquezinho D’Souza, has raised concerns over the shortage of staff at Verna Police Station, which caters to a large area.
While addressing the matter, D’Souza stated that he has written to Chief Minister and Home Minister Pramod Sawant seeking immediate intervention and an increase in police personnel at the station.
D’Souza said the government should reassess the population under the police station’s jurisdiction and increase its staff accordingly. “As of now, no new assessment has been done for the past 20 years. The sanctioned strength is 110 personnel, of which only 76 posts have been filled,” he said.
He added that the actual strength has reduced further due to personnel being on leave or transferred.
D’Souza also highlighted security concerns in Zuarinagar, which has a population of over 20,000 but is served by a single police outpost with only two personnel.
Cansaulim Sarpanch Savio Pereira also demanded that additional staff be deployed at Verna Police Station immediately to ensure its smooth and effective functioning and strengthen public safety.
