Cataract detection camp held
PANAJI: Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar said that donating eyes is a gesture of fraternity and a sign of humanity. He said eye donation is the noblest of all the charities because it opens up new vistas of light for the visually impaired.
He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day free cataract eye camp organized by the Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera in association with Bhagwati Trust and Vision Care Hospital at Government High School, Kundai.
Dr Ghanashyam Mardolkar touched on the major causes of corneal blindness including trachoma, corneal ulceration following xerophthalmia due to vitamin A deficiency, environmental factors radiations and the use of harmful traditional medicines.
A total of 90 patients were examined by the team of doctors consisted of Dr Venkatesh K (optometrist), Dr Siddhi Tendulkar and others.27 patients were found with cataract who will be treated free of cost at Vision Care hospital, Mapusa.
