Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Monday said the statewide celebrations of Shivrajya Abhisek Din had been long overdue, but it was a welcome gesture by the State government.
“Sometimes, we have so many good things in our minds, but due to some reason or the other, we tend to forget them. This decision to commemorate the Shivrajya Abhisek Din should have been taken much earlier, but it is never too late. In future, this day will be celebrated even with more vigour, because Shivaji Maharaj himself is an inspiration to us all,” Tawadkar said.
He was addressing a gathering after garlanding the statue of Chatrapati Shivaji at the Dy Collector’s Complex in Canacona on Monday.
Earlier in his welcome speech, Canacona Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar said Shivaji Maharaj delivered justice to all people and went on to become an ideal king.
Others present on the occasion included Canacona Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, BDO Anil Naik, Dr Diwakarji Velip and most of the government staff.
Elsewhere, the bust of Shivaji Maharaj was garlanded by principal Dr Manoj Kamat in the presence of staff and others at the Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College in Delem.
