The discovery of dead fish in the canal on Thursday morning, following the release of chemicals the night before in Curti, has sparked outrage among local residents. This recurring issue of fish fatalities due to chemical discharges into the drains has left the community demanding decisive action from the government against polluting factories.
The incident of chemical discharge from a factory in the Betora Panchayat area has been reported multiple times in the past. Despite repeated complaints, no effective measures were taken, leading to yet another fish kill in the stream on Thursday. The Nala, flowing from Betora to Bandora Panchayat area, is suspected to have caused the widespread death of fish due to the hazardous chemical release.
Previously, Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik had called for strict action against the factory in Betoda responsible for the chemical discharge. However, locals also express frustration over the government’s inaction regarding complaints about locals dumping chemicals into the drains. There is a growing demand for immediate action to safeguard natural water resources in the future.
