An unidentified group of miscreants  allegedly broke into a closed restaurant at Baga and ransacked the  premises, causing minor damage. However, police said nothing appears to  have been stolen.

The incident came to light on Monday morning  when the owner sent workers to clean the restaurant, which had remained  closed for some time. The workers found the premises in disarray and  informed the owner.

Preliminary inquiries suggest the intruders  entered through the rear of the restaurant before searching the  premises. Although the restaurant was ransacked and minor damage was  caused, the owner told police that no cash, valuables or other items  were missing. The owner also informed police that unknown persons  had damaged a few window panes and an electricity meter at the property  a few days earlier. As the damage was minor, he had not lodged a formal  complaint.

He further told investigators that he had hired two  labourers to carry out work at the restaurant a few days before the  break-in. Police are examining all possible angles.

A team from  Anjuna Police visited the spot, carried out a preliminary inspection and  launched an investigation to identify those responsible.

“We are  verifying how the accused gained entry into the premises and are  examining all leads. At this stage, no theft has been reported, but the  investigation is ongoing,” a police officer said.

Police are also  expected to examine nearby CCTV footage and question people who visited  or worked at the property in recent days to establish the sequence of  events.
