CM hails budget, calls it Viksit Bharat 2047’s foundation

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday hailed the ‘interim budget’  presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament calling it “foundational budget” for a Viksit Bharat 2047.

Sawant said it chalks out the path for the next 25 years, adding that it emphasizes on development of women, youth, farmers and the country’s poor.

The budget also gained positive reactions from industry captains and representatives.

Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Shrinivas Dempo called it a continuation of policies for fostering a thriving business environment. “The budget was a ‘vote on account’ with no surprises, focusing on governance, development and performance (GDP),” Dempo said, adding that the initiatives for green energy, infrastructure, tourism and healthcare were welcome.

Dempo also picked the proposal to set up a separate department for fisheries to implement the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to enhance aquaculture productivity and double exports to 1 lakh crore with 55 lakh employment opportunities for praise from a Goa-centric standpoint.

“Goa can benefit from this and can also look at the comprehensive development of tourism sector where the Government has proposed development of iconic tourist’ centers for branding and marketing them at a global scale,” he added.
