Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday launched the Sudharit Kamdhenu Yojana and announced revised higher milk procurement rates for Goa’s dairy farmers.
Sawant said the government remains committed to strengthening the dairy sector and ensuring better returns for farmers and distributed the new rate charts at a function attended by Animal Husbandry Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, Co‑operation Minister Subhash Shirodkar, senior officials, Goa Dairy representatives, dairy co‑operatives, and farmers at the Ravindra Kala Mandir, Ponda.
Under the revised scheme, effective from April 1, farmers will receive an incentive of Rs 6 per litre for cow milk and Rs 10 per litre for buffalo milk. The Chief Minister said the hike would improve incomes and promote sustainable dairy farming across the State.
Officials added that the scheme is designed to encourage farmers to expand production and modernise practices and aims to stabilise the sector, which has faced challenges of rising costs and fluctuating demand.
Sawant said the dairy sector remains a priority for his government, both for rural livelihoods and food security.
He assured the farmers that the administration would continue to support them through schemes, subsidies, and infrastructure upgrades.
The launch of the Sudharit Kamdhenu Yojana marks another step in the State’s effort to boost agriculture and allied activities, with dairy farming seen as a key pillar of Goa’s rural economy.
