Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday underscored the need to bring about a revolution in the field of technology, innovation, research, solar energy, startups, robotics and skilled sector by taking the inspiration of the freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives to liberate Goa from the Portuguese.
He also promised to take up the work of renovation of all the memorials, including the Patradevi and Cuncolim Chieftains memorial, and will place before the children of Goa history of the historic events such as the 1583 Cuncolim revolt, the Pinto revolt and the Rane revolt for the next 100 years.
Saying Goans had joined the Goa liberation movement prior to 1961 to liberate the State from the colonial power, the Chief Minister said, “Today, we have to bring about a revolution in the field of technology, innovation, research, solar energy, startups, robotics, skilled sector. We have to take the inspiration of the freedom fighters to take Goa forward.”
Referring to the presence of the members of the Lohia family at the Goa Revolution Day function at the Lohia Maidan, the Chief Minister said the people of Goa will forever remain indebted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia’s family for his contribution to the liberation of Goa.
In his address, Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar said that Goa would have been liberated much earlier had then Home Minister Sardar Vallabai Patel lived on for some time, adding ‘finally, we have to wait till 1961 for the Liberation of Goa’.
The Chief Minister led the people in paying respects to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and the freedom fighters by laying wreath at Lohia statue at the Lohia Maidan.
