MARGAO

Less than two months after a 20-year old girl was gang raped and her boyfriend assaulted and robbed on Betalbatim’s Sunset beach on May 25 night, the Colva police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against the three accused persons from Indore, Madhya Pradesh in the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao.

The three accused Ishwar Mackwana (27), Ram Bariya (19) and Sanjeev Pal (23) have been chargesheeted under various provisions of IPC, including gang rape, robbery, wrongful restraint and extortion.

In the brief mentioned in the chargesheet, Colva police stated that the accused persons on the night of May 24, between 8.20 pm to 8.50 pm, wrongfully restrained the complainant victim and her boyfriend and threatened them with dire consequences before inducing the boy to hand over the keys of the scooter.

The police further stated that the trio assaulted the victim’s boyfriend with fist blows and thereafter had forceful sexual intercourse with the victim against her

consent.

The accused were further accused of forcefully getting the victim and her boyfriend to undress before clicking their photos and video in a semi-nude state.

The Colva police further claimed in the charge sheet that accused No 3, Ishwar Mackwana, against whom a number of criminal cases are pending at Indore, including robbery and murder, later demanded an amount of Rs 10,500 from the duo, while threatening to make the photograph and video public on social media.

The gang rape of the young girl from Salcete by the three accused at knife point and in front of her boyfriend at the secluded Sunset beach in Betalbatim had sent shock waves across the state, with public representatives and citizen groups demanding the death penalty for the three natives of Indore.

The three accused, who had come down to Colva as tourists, were looking for their prey at the Betalbatim beach as they were in need of money.

The two victims, who came on a scooter at around 8 pm on the beach became the targets of the three accused, who were not only robbed of their money, but the young girl was gang-raped by the trio.

After the girl lodged her complaint with the Colva police in the wee hours of May 25, teams constituted by the Goa Police managed to nab the assailants from the Thivim railway station, Margao KTC bus stand and along the railway tracks at Margao.

Investigations later revealed that accused Iswhar was involved in similar offenses back home in Indore, including robberies and murder.
