Stating that the government is committed to resolve and attend to various issues raised by the fishermen, Union Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala assured the upliftment of fisherfolk in the State through various schemes in force.

Rupala was speaking at the last leg of Sagar Parikrama-V programme at Rajbag which began at Raigad in Maharashtra on May 17 and culminated at Canacona on Friday.  

“Through Sagar Parikrama programme, we got in touch with the traditional fishermen brothers and got to know their problems. In this programme, since morning we saw Vasco jetty, met traditional fishermen and also visited the fish processing plant.”

The objective of the fifth phase of this cycle is to understand the problems faced by the fishermen and other fish traders and stakeholders in the Raigad-Canacona belt, to uplift them by availing the various fisheries schemes and initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada (PMMSY) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC), informed Rupala.

Cheques under the various schemes and fish-storage boxes were distributed to fisherfolks on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar said that in order to solve the unemployment problem in Canacona, milk dairy and mussel-farming and breeding of fish can deployed.

Rupala was felicitated with a Kunbi shawl and a lamp on the occasion.
