Congress leaders including Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, South Goa MP, Viriato Fernandes, Quepem MLA, Altone D’Costa, and GPCC president, Amit Patkar, addressed a meeting in Taleigao on Sunday as part of their Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan.
Alemao said that during the meeting, he interacted with the people present to understand the local concerns ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly.
“The issues raised by the community included rampant illegal landfilling in agricultural and low-lying areas, unplanned urbanisation to benefit the builder lobby, acute shortage of potable water, dumping of garbage in open spaces near Goa University, among others,” Alemao said.
He said he would raise these pressing issues of Taleigao in the monsoon session.
Patkar said that the party would conduct such ‘Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan’ meetings and interactions of its leaders with local people across the State for a year, during which the misdeeds of both the local and Central government, which threaten the democratic and secular ethos of the country’s Constitution, would be exposed.
