Congress Velim candidate tells people of Areal not to split votes

MARGAO

Congress Velim candidate Savio D’Silva on Friday appealed to the people of Sao Jose de Areal not to split the vote in the ensuing polls, saying it will only bring the BJP and its agents back in the Assembly.

He was addressing a meeting at Areal on the occasion of live address by party leader Rahul Gandhi from Sankhali on Friday evening.

In his address, Savio said his opponents are trying to tarnish his image, saying he was never involved in any extortion or corruption charges despite being the Sarpanch of Velim village for the last four and half years.

“There is not a single case of corruption or extortion made against me by anyone. Our opponents are trying to tarnish my image by referring to a couple of pending criminal cases. But, I want to tell you that one of the criminal cases pertains to the Velim Church attack case when I and several villagers had rushed to the church to save the priests. In return, I along with the priests have been accused of assault”, he added.

Calling upon the people of Velim to rally behind the Congress, Savio reminded that the BJP government has destroyed Goa during its last 10-year rule in the State.
