CURCHOREM
It may be recalled that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had laid the foundation stone for the project in August 2015 in the presence of Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai and other officials.
The old Uguem Panchayat Ghar was built in 1984 and the structure has deteriorated over the years. The building is in bad condition and the plaster on the ceiling has begun to give way.
The project to construct the new Uguem Panchayat Ghar was to be undertaken under the Dindayal Infrastructure Scheme (2013) at an estimated cost of Rs one crore.
According to plans, the new panchayat building will have separate offices for the sarpanch, deputy sarpanch and panchayat secretary. The complex will also have rooms for the electricity, sub-health centre and post office. In addition, a gymnasium has also been proposed for
local youth.
When inquired about the present status of the project, Uguem Sarpanch Amey Naik said the tender for the project had been awarded, but there was delay in giving the
work order.
When contacted, local MLA Subhash Phaldessai admitted that the work on the new Uguem Panchayat Ghar had been delayed.
“The work was delayed due to some technical paperwork with regards to land transfer from Water Resource Department to the Panchayat. However, the work will start after a few days, once the documentation process is completed,” he added.
