Cortalim Comunidade directed to stop extraction of mud

The Mormugao Deputy Collector and SDO has directed the Cortalim Comunidade to stop extraction of mud from comunidade land.

Confirming the same, Cortalim Talathi Amresh Naik told The Goan that he had served a show-cause notice-cum-stop work order to Cortalim Comunidade Escrivao Shivdas Gawde on Tuesday, directing the Cortalim Comunidade Attorney to stop the extraction of mud.
Earlier, the Cortalim-Quelossim sarpanch had also requested the deputy collector to stop the extraction.
The talathi said the deputy collector had acted based on newspaper reports.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted the issue after which comunidade functionaries claimed that the extraction of mud without government approval was a criminal offence.
Meanwhile, the talathi informed The Goan that he had mentioned in his report that about 200 sq metres of mud had been extracted.
“I have made a check list of all the authorities mentioned in Survey nos 133/1 and 145/1, which also includes the names of Konkan Railway, Govt of Goa, Ministry of Roads and Surface Transport in addition to Cortalim Comunidade as co-occupants,” Naik told The Goan. “I had informed the contractor’s representative that I wasn’t  happy with the information furnished,” he added.
Admitting that the show-cause notice-cum-stop work had been served on attorney John Philipe Pereira, Cortalim Comundiade Escrivao Shivdas Gawde said he had telephonically informed the attorney about it.
Regarding the supervision of the extraction of mud in terms of quantity that was being removed, the Escrivao said he did not know the modus operandi resorted by the comunidade to keep a check on the extraction.
