Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Friday informed that the Cortalim Panchayat office is to be shifted to the new Cortalim market complex, which is expected to be inaugurated on January 26, 2018.
Speaking to reporters along the sidelines of the annual day function of the Cortalim Panchayat, Saldanha said the Cortalim market was the dream project of her husband, late Matanhy Saldanha. "It is not a market but a market complex as it will house a police sub-station, electricity department office, post office and the Cortalim Panchayat will also shift its office to the new market complex," she said.
"Work on the complex was going at great pace and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had inspected the site a month ago and was satisfied with the construction work. He had instructed the contractor to get the complex ready and inaugurated by January 26," Saldanha added.
The MLA also informed that Parrikar has invited the Cortalim sarpanch and deputy sarpanch to give them tips on how to generate funds required to maintain the project.
"I will hand over the project after inauguration to the panchayat. I am glad they will be present to inspect and maintain the complex," she added.
Speaking to reporters, Sarpanch Senia Pereira said the annual day was celebrated every year on December 29.
"This year, the event was sponsored entirely by Deputy Sarpanch Raymond D'Sa. This was also an opportunity to meet up with residents of Cortalim and interact with them at a get-together organised during the event," said Pereira.
