Dabos water plant upgrade to boost Sattari’s water security

The upgradation of the 15 MLD (Million Litres per Day) Dabos Water Treatment Plant, a key project aimed at improving drinking water supply in Sattari taluka, is progressing steadily under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0).

Health Minister and Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane recently reviewed the progress of the project, which is being executed at a cost of over Rs 50 crore.

Once completed, the upgraded plant will strengthen the water supply network across Sattari taluka and support the long-term goal of providing 24x7 water supply in the Valpoi Municipal area.

Located on the Mhadei River, the Dabos Water Treatment Plant is one of the main sources of drinking water for Valpoi Municipality and several villages in Sattari. With rising population, urbanisation, tourism growth and increasing demand for potable water, the government has undertaken a major modernisation of the plant to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply.

The project includes civil, mechanical and electrical upgrades, including the installation of advanced water treatment equipment, improvement of filtration systems, strengthening of pumping infrastructure, modernisation of electrical control systems, upgrades to the distribution network and digital monitoring systems for continuous water quality checks.

The project also includes five years of operation and maintenance to ensure efficiency, quality control and regular upkeep of the facility.

During the review meeting, Rane held discussions with engineers and officials on the project status, construction progress, technical aspects, quality standards and timelines. He directed the agencies involved to maintain high quality standards, ensure that the ongoing work does not affect regular water supply and complete the project within the deadline.

The upgraded plant is expected to improve water purification, enhance drinking water quality, streamline distribution and create infrastructure capable of meeting future demand. It will also help manage water resources during summer and low rainfall periods, reducing the risk of shortages.

The modernisation of the Dabos Water Treatment Plant will introduce advanced technologies, including energy-efficient equipment, improved pumping systems, high-performance filtration units and digital water quality monitoring. The project is aimed at meeting the future needs of Sattari amid population growth and development.

The plant is expected to benefit thousands of residents across Sattari taluka, including those within Valpoi Municipal limits, by ensuring safer and more reliable drinking water supply.

Speaking on the occasion, Rane said the BJP-led Goa Government has made significant investments in roads, bridges, water supply, healthcare, education, tourism and other infrastructure projects across Sattari.

He said the government’s vision was to reduce the development gap between rural and urban areas by ensuring that the benefits of development reach every village and household.

He added that the Dabos Water Treatment Plant upgrade was an important step towards achieving this goal.

Rane also acknowledged the support received under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme from the Government of India and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar for their support in strengthening urban infrastructure in Goa.

Dry spell delays paddy sowing, farmers turn to wells for water

PANAJI  The ongoing dry spell and inadequate rainfall have disrupted paddy sowing in several parts of Goa, with many farmers yet to complete transplanting operations. Some cultivators have been forced to pump water from wells into their fields to prevent paddy saplings from drying out.  Paddy transplanting requires waterlogged fields, but the lack of rain has made it difficult for farmers to prepare the soil. “If transplanting is not completed now and the…
