MARGAO
Margao Municipal Council’s ongoing crack down on business establishments operating without the mandatory trade licence continued for the second day on Thursday, with the Municipal team sealing four more shops and establishments.
That’s not all. Following the crack down, unscrupulous shop owners, especially those hailing from outside the State, came rushing to the Municipal building on Thursday, with some collecting forms to obtain the trade licence, while others seeking time to comply with the procedure.
With the Municipal team fully backed by Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes, officials led by Accounts and Taxation Officer Abhay Rane went about their work of sealing business establishments, which were found operating without the trade licence.
Rane informed that while the team went about sealing the establishments, others pulled their shutters to escape action from the
raiding team.
In the meantime, the municipal team unsealed the two financial establishments, which were sealed a day ago after the management produced the necessary documents. The leading private firm, which was served 24-hours by the civic body to produce the documents or risk closure, also submitted the trade licence documents.
Meanwhile, the Margao Municipal Council Accounts and Taxation section was swamped with inquiries by erring show owners on the question of complying with the trade licence formalities. A delegation of shop owners, hailing from outside the State, also made their presence felt in the Municipal building on Thursday. After they could not meet the Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes, they called on
the Chairperson, Babita Angle Prabhudesai with their
grievances.
