The Digi-Dhan Mela brought together a number of companies, which have developed innovative concepts to help people making cash-less transactions. The event saw participation from not only banks and telecom service providers, but also from new-age technology companies.
A Goan company called ‘Sogle Borem’ was marketing its app called ‘Poishe’, which is aimed at helping local businessmen make cash-less transactions. Such businesses are desperately trying to connect to their consumers online, but they are often too small to be considered by e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart.
Explaining the concept behind Poishe, Ashish Kamat, technical and finance head of Sogle Borem said, “Using this app, a merchant can scan the product’s barcode through his mobile making his mobile the point-of-sale (POS) machine. The app will connect the merchant to a bank’s payment gateway. Then, he will enter the debit/credit card number of the customer. Meanwhile, the customer will get a one-time-password (OTP), which he will give to the merchant to enable payment.”
Werner Egipsy Souza, strategy & marketing head, Sogle Borem, said, “We have already sold this app to five customers in Goa, including a petrol-pump dealer, a spa, a wine-shop and a hospital. We charge Rs 18,000 per year for this app for single user. For multiple users, we charge Rs 50,000 per year.”
Digital wallets like ‘Paytm’ also participated in Digi-Dhan Mela. A representative from the company said, “Through our stall, we have helped a number of customers in upgrading. Upgrading means they can give us their documents for know-your-customer (KYC) compliance, which will enable them to make transactions worth Rs 25,000 in a month.”
Upgrading has helped a lot of people as without KYC they can make transactions worth only Rs 10,000 in a month through Paytm.
Apart from it, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Corporation Bank and several other banks also had a stall at Digi-Dhan Mela, where they were marketing their mobile payment apps.
